Cafe appliances

I remodeled my kitchen and put in Cafe appliances, all of them are 'Smart'. They all connect to WIFI and have apps that I loaded on my android mobile. I found all of this pretty useless. The range can tell me what temperature the oven is at, how much time is left on the timer etc. Pretty useless as you are usually in the kitchen when making a meal, or if you have stepped away, you can always set a timer on your phone to go check the food in the oven. The dishwasher can tell me if it is running and how much time is left, but really I turn it on and walk away knowing that my coffee cup will be clean in the morning.

The only feature that is of any use is the link between the range and the microwave that will turn on the microwave surface lights when I turn on the range stove top.

I've seen a few setups where people use voice control or automations to run appliances during off peak hours but that depends on how flexible the app is. The microwave light sync is handy, though and it's one of the few features that actually saves a step. Have you looked into whether the app allows routines or triggers that could tie into other parts of your home setup like lighting or HVAC?

None of that really works with the Cafe App or Cafe Appliances. I run my home with Alexa so switching lights and fans on and off is simple with voice control or schedules. Alexa also makes music throughout the home easy using Amazon Echo devices. I have an EcoBee for HVAC and that ties into Alexa for voice control. My entertainment units (TVs, receivers, and streaming devices) also work with Alexa. As for running appliances during off peak hours, and I'm assuming you mean things like the oven or the clothes dryer, is not a concern. Even if it was, we would just not use them during peak hours. Our range top is gas not electric.

What I'm saying is that while you can spend the money on smart appliances, it does not seem to have any advantages.

my sister uses cafe appliances too. she usually uses the hands free control functions for preheating ovens, starting coffee makers, even voice-to-open oven door
it's pretty useful for her, who's really busy working from home
