WiFi smart bulbs klling my internet

I’m trying to build a voice controlled home theater, but my new Cync and Cree wifi bulbs are absolutely wrecking my internet.
I’m getting 1–2 second delays on everything, even my wired devices! my PS5 can barely stay connected

I’ve got an Echo 4th Gen with Zigbee and an Apple TV 4K that handles Thread/Matter. if I swap these wifi bulbs for Zigbee or Matter versions, will it fix my lag, or do I need a whole separate hub to save my network?

If WiFi bulbs are causing 1 to 2 second lag even on wired devices, it is usually your router getting overloaded by too many chatty 2.4 GHz clients or multicast traffic. Before buying new bulbs, try a quick isolation test: turn off the bulbs for an hour and see if the PS5 and wired gear snap back to normal. If yes, move bulbs to a separate 2.4 GHz IoT SSID if your router supports it, disable any “smart connect” band steering, and update router firmware.

how many WiFi devices are we talking about here? generally, a standard router starts sweating once you hit 10 to 30 devices, depending on how beefy it is.

adding a Zigbee hub just to offload one or two things doesn't really make sense. I’d start by rebooting the router and digging into the logs to see what’s actually going on before you buy more gear

Before buying more stuff, I would do two quick tests. Power off all the WiFi bulbs and see if your internet instantly stabilizes. Then add them back a few at a time. If the lag returns, you confirmed the culprit. If confirmed, Zigbee or Thread is usually the clean move. WiFi bulbs are convenient until you have a bunch of them.

WiFi bulbs can absolutely overwhelm a router if they’re all talking cloud at once especially on cheaper or ISP-provided gear.

First thing I’d try is isolating them on a guest network or IoT VLAN so they’re not sharing airtime with your PS5 and wired traffic. If that immediately fixes the lag, it’s congestion, not your main internet.

Switching to Zigbee or Thread/Matter bulbs is usually the real long-term fix since they stop flooding your WiFi entirely and hand off control to a hub instead.
