what’s the one thing you refuse to automate even if you could?

Curious question for the Home Automation folks. What’s one thing you still refuse to automate even though you totally could?

I’m asking because last week I almost set up an automation for a lock and then got nervous and backed out. I love the convenience, but I also like knowing some things are 100 percent manual. What’s your line and why?

I refuse to fully automate the thermostat schedule. I’ll automate small assists like setback when everyone leaves, but I keep a manual habit for comfort. In winter especially, chasing perfect automation can turn into annoying temperature whiplash.

For me it’s door locks. I know it’s doable, but I still get nervous about a glitch or a bad rule at the wrong time, so I keep locking and unlocking as a manual habit. I’m slowly getting more confident with automations in 2026, but my line is anything that affects security when I’m not home.
