Alright Home Automation people, early 2026 question

What’s one home automation upgrade you actually want this year?

Not the coolest flex setup. More like the thing that would quietly make your daily routine smoother and you’d feel it every day

Could be a better way to handle lights at night, a simple motion routine that actually works, a sensor that stops false alerts, a thermostat tweak, a door lock routine, or anything that removes one tiny annoyance you deal with all the time

What’s the upgrade, and what problem is it solving for you?

My 2026 upgrade is getting my night lighting routine to be boring and reliable. Motion lights that don’t miss and don’t false trigger. If I stop thinking about hallway lights, that’s a win.

I want fewer false alerts. One good contact sensor and a cleaner notification rule so I only get pinged when something is actually wrong. Problem it solves is alert fatigue and ignoring the one alert that matters.

For me it’s a smarter entry routine. I want the porch and hallway lights to behave consistently when we come home with hands full, then shut off cleanly without anyone touching switches.

I want one clean “arrival home” routine that never needs babysitting. Porch light plus entry light plus a short timer, and it should only run when it makes sense. Right now mine is like 80% there but that 20% random miss is what bugs me.
