Best home office lighting combo for video calls, what’s your set and forget setup?

I’m trying to get my home office lighting dialed in so I can stop thinking about it. The funny part is my smart home stuff is great for everything else, but video calls make me notice every little change in lighting like it’s the end of the world.

A specific moment was last week when my camera exposure kept hunting because I had one lamp behind me, and I only realized it after watching the recording. For people who have a setup they love, what’s the simple combo that looks good and stays consistent, like one key light plus a warm background lamp, a fixed schedule for brightness, or a scene that changes with time of day without making you look different every hour?

Set and forget for video calls is mostly about keeping the light in front of you and killing the backlight. A simple combo is one diffused key light at face level plus a small background lamp behind your monitor, not behind your head. Then lock your camera exposure if your app allows it, that stops the hunting.

The camera exposure hunting is usually from backlighting. I put the brightest light in front of me at eye level, not overhead, and I keep windows to the side, not behind. That one change made my calls look way better. I also turned off auto color on my webcam and left it on one setting so it stops changing my face tone.
