Biggest thing for me was splitting the network. Smart gear on its own Wi-Fi, everything else separate. It keeps the junk isolated and speeds up the stuff I actually care about.

I turned off cloud control on a few devices and switched to local automation where possible. It’s faster and keeps data out of random servers so win-win.

I like to be very secure. so, not just use a separate guest network for the IoT devices, but change all default passwords to strong, unique ones, enable 2FA, and regularly update firmware to patch vulnerabilities

nowadays a stronger password is mandatory, 2FA's are a strong recommendation too. great tip!
