What is your personal balance between local control and cloud convenience, and what steps do you take to harden accounts and devices? If you had to give a new member a short checklist, what would be on it, and what is one mistake you see people make that creates the biggest risk?

I’m not paranoid about it, but I treat the network as the foundation. Separate IoT network, disable remote admin on the router, keep the router firmware updated, and don’t expose devices directly to the internet. Then for accounts, 2FA and alerts for logins. Biggest mistake is people port forwarding cameras or NVRs because it’s easy.
