If a friend told you “my smart home is driving me crazy,” what’s the first problem you’d ask them to diagnose, and what’s the first fix you’d try.

Do you start with WiFi and network basics, device mix and ecosystems, automations fighting each other, voice assistant weirdness, firmware updates, or something like weak Zigbee or Z-Wave mesh. What’s the fastest question that tells you where the real mess is.

Then what’s your first fix that usually gives immediate relief. I’m curious what you’d do first before you go nuclear and rebuild everything.

My first question is always “what is your WiFi and router setup, and how many devices are on it.” Most smart home pain is just a stressed network. First fix is reboot the router, then split 2.4 and 5 GHz if needed and move the smart stuff to 2.4 so it stops dropping.

First question is what changed right before it got annoying. New router, new devices, new automations, or an update. First fix is to turn off the newest automation for a day and see if the chaos stops.
