It’s the first couple days of 2026 which means it’s time for the yearly smart home ritual. We promise ourselves we’ll clean things up, simplify, and stop living with automations that behave like a moody roommate.

So what automation are you fixing first this year?

The one that half works and only when the stars align. The one that spams notifications like it’s trying to get a commission. Or the one everyone in the house hates but you keep defending because you built it and you want it to win.

Share what it does and what’s broken about it. Bonus points if your 2026 plan is to delete it and admit defeat. What’s your first smart home cleanup target?

Definitely my “smart” bedtime routine. It tries to handle lights, plugs, notifications, and reminders all at once and somehow still gets it wrong. Half the time it fires too early, the other half it reminds me to go to bed after I’m already asleep. First fix is simplifying it to just lighting and letting everything else go.
