Voice assistant with more privacy

although I use it daily, I know that Alexa has less privacy, and I don't like that
I'm looking for voice assistant alternatives that focus more on our privacy
does anyone here have recos, and tell me the advantages and disadvantages

I messed around with Mycroft before it went weird financially, but the open-source forks still work if you’re patient. Super private since it’s all local, but honestly… it’s like living with a voice assistant from 2015. Hit or miss, but nobody’s selling your data.

There are a few options that protect privacy better than Alexa. Some people move to Apple because most of the processing stays local and the data rules are tighter. Others build a local assistant with open source tools, which gives you full control but also more maintenance. It really comes down to how much effort you want to put in for that added privacy. What is the biggest drawback of Alexa for you right now?

I get you. I game with a mic on most nights and the idea of Alexa listening in while I rage at a boss fight feels… awkward. I switched to a locally run setup on my mini-PC and it’s been way quieter on the privacy side. Downsides are you gotta tinker a bit more, but honestly it’s kinda fun. Are you cool with some setup time or do you want something that “just works”?
