Looking for ways to keep my office routine smooth with all these devices

I work from home here in Wisconsin and my smart home setup is starting to feel like it has a mind of its own. Half the time the automations make my day smoother and the other half they get in the way of meetings or knock my focus off. My lights follow my schedule but my notifications and smart speakers sometimes pick bad moments to wake up. I am wondering how others balance their smart home with actual work demands. Do you turn certain devices off during work hours or set up different routines just for the office part of the day? I want the convenience but not the interruptions. Curious how people found the right balance without making the setup more complicated.

Balancing convenience with focus usually comes down to keeping the workday rules as simple as possible. A dedicated routine that quiets your speakers and limits notifications during meetings can make a big difference without adding layers of complexity. It could help to start with a single toggle that shifts your office into a “do not bother me” state. Are you running your routines through one platform or a mix of different apps?

I found that less is more for the office. I actually moved my smart speaker to the hallway just outside the office door. I can still hear it for timers or music, but the voice assistant doesn't accidentally trigger from my laptop's audio during meetings.
I also set a 9 to 5 routine that disables all noncritical notifications (like laundry being done) so they only hit my phone, not my speakers
