I rent and I'm wondering where to start with home automation. It would mean having everything easily removed if I move, but also no damage to walls and the like.

I like Alexa, she plays all over my two-bedroom apartment.

My thermostat is hard wired so I'm limited in replacing it. That would have been great being able to control it from an app, but unfortuntely not an option.

What else can I do to further the awesomeness of my place? The future is now, and I'd like to be a part of it.

I think plug-in devices is a great way to go! Smart plugs are super versatile and setting them up with Alexa is usually a breeze! Think about controlling lamps, fans and even small appliances! Smart lighting with Wi-Fi bulbs is another easy win since it's just screw in!

We just got indoor cameras that sit on a shelf! Ours got motion detection and alerts and a two-way audio! We just need to connect them to our home wifi, that's basically it!

Since you're renting, sticking with things that don't need drilling or rewiring is the name of the game. How's your home automation project , what did you end up trying out?

So nice that you're thinking about the terms of your rent when thinking of home automation stuff. A lot of rentees are just inconsiderate, if you know what I mean. Pretty sure you can also throw in some remote-controlled lighting/ambiance in your room. One way to spice things up for sure ;)

Absolutely! I completley agree that being mindful about your space in a rental can really change the vibe. Have you thought about using some battery-powered or adhesive smart lights? They're a fantastic option for renters like us who want to add a little sparkle without any hassle
