GoogleHome OnAir light for home office

I’m setting up my wife's home office in our new rental and want to put a wireless light outside her door to show when she's on a call
I’m looking for something smart and automatic that I can just trigger via Google Home, but most of the dedicated office lights I've seen online are crazy expensive for what they actually do

Since we're renting, wireless is the way to go, so I don't have to mess with the walls, right?
has anyone found a cheap puck light or simple LED setup that plays nice with Google Assistant?

Wireless is definitely the move in a rental. The only “gotcha” is battery puck lights usually aren’t great for automation unless they’re made to stay powered. If you can run it off a USB brick, you’ll have a way easier time making it reliable.

If you want the puck-light look, cheap puck lights are usually not “smart” by themselves. The workaround is using a USB-powered puck/strip plugged into a smart plug, or a smart bulb in a small fixture. That keeps the “office light” cost low, and you’re not locked into some overpriced branded On Air sign.
