Every beginner guide goes straight to products. Buy this hub, buy these bulbs, set up this app but what they skip is choosing your ecosystem first because switching later is an expensive nightmare. The three main lanes are Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit and now Matter is trying to bridge them, with some success. Think about what devices you already own, what platform your family actually uses daily and whether you care about local processing or cloud dependency, then buy products that fit that lane. Buying a random assortment of incompatible devices because they were on sale is how you end up with five apps and a system nobody in the house wants to use.
