Smart door project for late night dog access

I started a thread in the DIY section after testing out ways to automate a sliding glass door for my dad's older dog, who needs out multiple times a night.

That’s a cool idea like how are you automating it? Linear actuator, motorized rail, or something simpler tied to a smart switch? I’ve seen a few setups using old curtain motors for sliding doors, but pet-safe sensors are usually the tricky part.
