I recently shifted my bed to the opposite wall during a remodel, and now my side is stuck in a dark nook. I have a smart LED strip that I'd like to place under the bed as a gentle night light, but I'm a bit stuck on how to set it up to work automatically. Using motion sensors is a bit tricky with my two dogs wandering around at night, and I'm not keen on it running on a set schedule. Has anyone come up with creative triggers for a setup like this?

I re modelled my bedroom last year and yep, my side ended up in a dark corner too. I ended up using a smart LED strip with a door sensor instead of motion. It turns on gently when I open the bedroom door at night, and shuts off after a few minutes. Super helpful, and no false triggers from my cat roaming around! You might wanna try that if motion's too tricky with your pups.

I think @j0yformidable's idea about a door sensor is great!! It's a clever and reliable way to handle this without triggering the lights with pets. Another option would be a contact sensor on a nightstand drawer or even a smart button for on-demand control. Both are great ways to get light exactly when you need it.

Glad I noticed this thread to see everyone's interesting suggestions! What I'd probably do myself is use a contact sensor on my nightstand drawer. That way, the light comes on when I reach for my glasses or a glass of water. I think it's automatic and intuitive, and it won't get triggered by a wandering pet or a door opening. It's more like a set it and forget it solution, which I think works well in my case!
