My hub made everything feel simpler

Getting a hub set up properly made my smart home feel way simpler than when everything was running as separate apps. The biggest win for me hasn’t been fancy stuff, it’s the stable day to day automations that just quietly work. That kind of reliability is honestly really satisfying.

The one automation I’d never give up now is my entry lighting. The other night I came home with groceries and it just worked. Porch light came on, hallway light followed, and it shut off after a few minutes without me touching anything. No phone, no voice command, no delay. It sounds small, but it makes the house feel “done.”

What’s the one automation you’d keep no matter what? Lights, climate, security, bedtime routine, something else that genuinely improved daily life?

That’s exactly the kind of win a hub is supposed to deliver, boring reliable stuff that just works. Entry lighting is probably the best “quality of life” automation there is, especially when it’s freezing out in January and you’re juggling bags. For me, it’s a bedtime routine that kills the main lights and checks the doors without me thinking about it.

Entry lighting is such a good example because you feel it immediately. My must keep one is a simple arrival routine plus a fail safe, like if it doesn’t trigger, a motion sensor still catches it. I’m still learning what triggers are most reliable, motion vs geofence vs door open. What devices are you using for the porch and hallway lights.
