Looking for wifi temperature control

I need to record temperature data a few times a day for about a year in a specific room of my house, it's for tracking seasonal patterns and seeing how my HVAC system is actually performing over time so I can get real data I can look back on and analyze. I need a temperature monitor that can handle this kind of long term logging. recording readings throughout the day, store the data somewhere accessible, and not require me to manually download information every week.
What can I do, what hardware can I setup for this and I would appreciate your suggestions too

Easiest route i know? Grab a Govee WiFi temp sensor with cloud logging. It’ll track hourly data for months and export straight to CSV if you ever need it. Cheap, reliable, and you don’t have to mess with local servers unless you want to geek out later.

Most “smart” temp sensors start dropping data after a few months unless you pay for cloud storage. If you want reliable logs for a full year, go for something like a Shelly Plus Add-on or ESPHome sensor tied to Home Assistant. Local storage means no subscriptions, no data loss.

nice that you’re doing long-term tracking and more people should. You could go off-the-shelf with something like Govee’s WiFi thermometers, or go DIY with a cheap ESP32 board and Home Assistant integration if you want complete control over your data. What kind of detail do you want? like just daily averages, or full-on hourly graphs?
