New here. Been around Home Automation for 25 years.

I have had exposure to many efforts and used a number of systems. Currently have a handful of lights and some services automated (timers really). My experiece is that more automation means more maintanance which s counterproductive. I'll automate something that will address an issue or make a difference. Not every light switch.
Currently using first gen ZWave which all works fine. I could migrate to a new zwave controller from my gen 1 Vera but only if it won't be a huge hassle or require learning another programming language.

Welcome to the Home Automation community, Demian! and thanks for supporting us with a Bronze membership. Your “only automate what matters” approach makes a lot of sense. First-gen Z-Wave can still run well, so an upgrade only really pays off if you want better range or newer features. Are you leaning toward any specific controller to replace the Vera?
